"AI and PR: Authoring the future"

A discussion on the potential, possibilities and pitfalls of AI

When AI first came onto communicators’ radar, many couldn’t focus on the amazing benefits it could bring. Instead, they were consumed by fear that it would make them obsolete.

Such reactions are not uncommon when revolutionary innovations are first introduced to the world. But now, with the debut and quick adoption of Generative AI tools such as ChatGPT, Microsoft Bing, DALL-E and Midjourney, PR pros are coming to understand just how powerful a tool AI can be in helping to increase the profession's value.

That said, unknowns abound. The AI-comms relationship is still in its infancy — a critical period that will shape how it can and should be used for the future. Now is the time to fully embrace the possibilities and be a voice for strategic, ethical adoption — to increase your AI literacy and get ahead of those who remain reluctant. This webcast, presented by WE Communications and moderated by the USC Center for Public Relations, is a key first step toward that goal.

A recent survey, conducted by WE in partnership with the USC Center for Public Relations, reveals how U.S. comms leaders currently feel about AI and its impact on the industry. During this hour, the right questions to ponder — and some answers to those queries — will be revealed. We’ll focus on:

  • Perceptions. From curious to concerned, we share survey findings on adoption and expectations
  • Skills. The tasks you need to perform well to best take advantage of AI
  • Primary uses. The key PR functions — some well-known, some under the radar — that AI can supercharge
  • Expectations. Yes, AI will relieve PR pros of many mundane and repetitive tasks, but it will also help us to do so much more
  • Reservations. While certain fears have been overcome, there remain serious pitfalls to avoid — and we’re not just talking about the obvious ones, such as data security and misinformation

The term "game changer" is used a lot — and it’s often hyperbolic. When it comes to AI, though, that description fits like a glove. Stop worrying about AI and debating its merit. Instead, start experimenting with it, embracing it and working to SHAPE its use for our future. This webcast will help you do just that — with confidence.

Speakers:
